Around 19:30hrs Saturday night, crews were dispatched to 117 N. Shelby St. in Blacksburg for possible working structure fire. Within minutes, crews were on scene to confirm a working fire and swiftly went into action preserving evidence, buildings, and businesses along the business corridor. Fire Chief Enacts Municipal Burn Ban
April 10
In light of the SCFC burn ban, which went into effect on April 7, 2020, Blacksburg Fire Chief Donovan Ford has banned all burning types in town limits, as well as our response district as a whole. "We will honor the ban and I have further banned burning in all areas of town", Chief Ford stated. He has further directed all fire personnel to extinguish any and all outdoor fires discovered. SCFC Issues Burn Ban Statewide

The South Carolina Forestry Commission has enacted a complete and total burn ban across the state effective 4/7/2020. The current ideal conditions for a potentially devastating wildfire coupled with a low inversion layer in the near future, which results in low laying smoke, were the reasons behind the ban. Winter Outdoor Burning

The winter months bring about the need for yard cleaning; this can include yard debris burning. The winter months are also wildfire season in South Carolina. A small ember can travel up to a mile away and ignite a wildfire. Low humidity, dry fuels, and slight winds is the perfect remedy to ignite a potentially devastating wildfire.

Heating System Check

As we head into the cooler months, we will begin using our heating systems. Before using them for the winter, make sure they are clean and in good working order.
HVAC systems and other "heat pumps" should be ran on approximately 75 degrees for an hour during the day while you're home. This will burn off any dust or other particles that may be in your system.

Structure fire
October 07
On 10/3/2019 at approximately 3:40pm, units were dispatched to the 500 block of S. Rutherford St. for a report of a structure fire. On arrival, units encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions. The fire was declared under control within 30 minutes of arrival.
While the home was severely damaged, the occupants were able to escape the home with no injuries reported.
