October 12, 2018

At approximately 1:00pm, Blacksburg units responded to reports of an accident with injuries on the 1300 block of W. Cherokee St.

On arrival, three vehicles were noted in the north bound lane of highway 29. A chain reaction had occurred, resulting in one vehicle striking the one in front of it. The two passengers in the front vehicle were transported with minor injuries.

It is important to remember when driving that you pay attention to your surroundings. Also use the 1 car length per 10mph rule. For example, if you are traveling with traffic at 55 mph, keep about 5.5 cars' length away from the vehicle in front of you. This will give you plenty of time to slow and stop. (Side note: in inclement weather, double that number to 2 car lengths per 10 mph).
