The Blacksburg Fire Department, established in 1900, is an all-volunteer fire department with an ISO rating of class 4.  We operate out of one station that was built in 1993, when our former station was no longer large enough to meet our needs. We currently have 37 active members comprised of firefighters, medical first responders, EMTs, Haz-Mat Technicians, and support staff. We have 9 apparatus at our disposal including three Pumpers, one 85 Foot Platform Ladder truck, one Tanker, one Rescue truck, one Medical/Brush truck, one HazMat trailer, and one Cribbing trailer. Our department is home to the Blacksburg Area Cherokee County Haz-Mat Response trailer. This unit responds upon request of any Blacksburg area fire department to assist in the containment and clean-up of hazardous material incidents. Our department responds to a wide variety of calls includingfires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, haz-mat incidents, and other calls of service where we may be of assistance.
