19th Annual Cherokee County Firefighter Games

Copperhead Bite Airlifts One

September 17

On 9/17/2018, at approximately 9:20pm, Blacksburg units responded to reports of a snake bite at Food Lion parking lot.

Upon arrival, units made contact with a male patient with a wound to his ankle. Patient was able to tell personnel that he was bitten as he was taking the trash out. The snake was recovered from his home, and confirmed to be a copperhead snake.

July 23

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on July 22nd station 9 responded along with CKC Buffalo and Antioch fire departments referencing a structure fire on the corner of West Carolina Street and North Chester Street.

June 13

On 6/8/2018, Blacksburg Fire responded to the 300 block of Cherokee Street in reference to a 2 car motor vehicle accident.

On arrival, all occupied were out of the vehicle, with no injuries reported.

Crews contained leaking fluids from both vehicles and assisted in traffic control.

Extended service outage for Northern Blacksburg, Grover on Friday

Broad River Electric has scheduled an extended service outage for members in the North Blacksburg and Grover areas.

Weather permitting, this outage will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18. The loss of service could be as long as 8 hours for some members.

This planned outage is required so that Broad River Electric’s power supplier can perform scheduled maintenance on essential equipment.

No Caption Mutual Aid For 40 Acre Wildfire

April 05

On 4/4/18, at approximately 3:05pm, Blacksburg Fire Department was requested for mutual aid with Grover, Bethlehem, and Cleveland County in North Carolina referencing a fast moving wildfire.

Motor Vehicle Accident at W. Lime St. And S. Charleston St.

March 16

On March 15th Blacksburg fire department responded to the above intersection referencing a two car motor vehicle accident.

On arrival a truck and a compact sedan were noted at the scene. The front end of the truck sustained moderate damage while the driver's side of the sedan sustained major damage. Thankfully all occupants and people involved were not seriously hurt.

Minor motor vehicle accident in front of Munchies on Highway 29

February 26

At 7:51 a.m. Blacksburg fire department was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 29 and Leagan Drive referencing a motor vehicle accident with reported injuries.

Upon arrival two cars were observed on the side of the road with obvious body damage. Further assessment of all occupants determined minor injuries of one of the drivers.

On February 25th at approximately 10:15 p.m. Blacksburg fire department was dispatched Mutual Aid with Upstate Carolina EMS referencing a gunshot victim.

Mullinax Circle and Wilderness Trail Fire

February 25

At approximately 9 o'clock p.m. on February 24th Blacksburg responding Mutual Aid with CKC fire department referencing a structure fire on the corner of Wilderness Trail and Mullinax circle.

Upon arrival a building which is presumed to be an old storage shed was found 100% involved and on the ground. Two attack lines were deployed and the fire was quickly suppressed.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. Blacksburg Fire Department was dispatched to the Pilot Fuel Center at Exit 106 on Interstate 85 in reference to a large fuel spill.

Car versus Power Pole

February 15

At 5:03 p.m. Blacksburg fire department was dispatched to 205 West Carolina Street referencing a single car motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival a single-occupant of a white Volkswagen Beetle was found shaken but otherwise uninjured. The car sustained body damage to the front right fender.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. Blacksburg Fire Department responded to Lenzer circle ball field per the request of EMS to establish a landing Zone for regional one.

Upon arrival at the ball field, Engine 93 established Landing Zone command and coordinated with the inbound Regional One medical helicopter for a safe landing Zone.

Low hanging power lines cause minor delays in downtown Blacksburg

February 13

At approximately 7:10 a.m. Blacksburg fire was dispatched to 140 Rutherford Street in reference to low hanging power lines. Upon arrival a secondary power line was discovered drooping approximately 5 feet off of the ground. The wireless connected to the Transformer and the power Pole across the street.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on February 12th Blacksburg Fire Department was dispatched Mutual Aid with CKC Fire Department referencing a single story residential structure fire. Upon arrival the structure which was determined to be a single wide mobile home was fully involved.

At approximately 8:10 a.m. Blacksburg fire department was dispatched to mile marker 102 southbound on-ramp of Interstate 85 referencing a single vehicle motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the patient was located on the side of the interstate sitting on the guardrail with minor injuries. The patient was treated and transported by Upstate Carolina EMS. At approximately 7:05 a.m. Blacksburg fire department was dispatched to the vicinity of the 1500 Block of West Cherokee Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival with EMS a single occupant of a black SUV was located at the site. Thankfully the patient sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to the hospital.
